Publié clandestinement au Québec en 1948, ce pamphlet et poème a valu à l'auteur d'être démis de ses fonctions d'enseignant. Peintre et sculpteur, il fonde en 1942 le groupe Les Automatistes. Inspiré du surréalisme, le manifeste de 1948 critique la société québécoise en rejetant l'Eglise et le rendement marchand pour appeler à une révolution poétique.
